10 things we’ve learned on our Western Canada road trip (so far)

1) Canadians are friendly.

We’ve been showered with gifts and helpful information.

Homemade plum jam and plum gin.

2) There’s lots of international culture.

Sometimes it can be confusing for American visitors.

Not a restaurant, by the way.

3) It’s hardly ever dark.

Even at 10:00 p.m. it’s sunny and bright outside. Also, the sun comes up at 4:00 a.m.

This was 2:00 a.m., I believe.

4) It’s a safe country.

Canadians are always looking out for your safety, and warning signs are everywhere.

We didn’t see any ice.

5) Canadian bacon is just ham.

Who knew?

No bacon on this plate.

6) Beware of “deals” for cabins.

I guess Canadians prefer a “closer to nature” experience that includes indoor wildlife and no hot water

Not shown: Spiders and mosquitos.

7) Speaking of wildlife, it’s everywhere.

We saw caribou, deer, moose, eagles, chipmunks, ground squirrels and bears yesterday.

Awwww.

8) It’s not hot.

I’m told it was 104 degrees in Dallas yesterday.

That’s at 56 degree difference, eh.

9) The cities are fun.

Banff is no Gatlinburg, Tennessee, but still.

Kevin even bought new underwear.

10) There’s beauty everywhere.

Beauty, eh!
